There are many of us who have, in our lifetime, heard the voice of Yahweh speaking to us. He can speak through circumstances which we equate with scripture, He can communicate through His Creation which helps us to see his might and majesty. He can talk to us through other people, as they talk and it hits a point home that His Word or He has been speaking to our heart. There are some like me who have been given the gift of prophecy, a gift of discernment and other gifts. I’m not shy to admit that Yahweh has give me dreams, visions and words of knowledge, most of them can be read at my Yirmayahu website. It has been a hard road for me with this gift. Most of the words that Yahweh has given to me have been corrections for the Church and some for individuals. I would say that on average, 98 percent of these words have been rejected or flat out denied. Personally, I don’t care because I’m just the messenger, not the author of the word. It’s sort of like telling a person standing on the railroad track that a train is coming and they argue with you that there is no train coming. They can hear the horn blaring and feel the earth shake from the engine of the train, but deny that a train approaches. If they are adamant about their belief, I cannot sway them one way or another. In all honesty, I’ve had more result from telling unbelievers that there is danger than I have telling believers that there is a danger approaching. They are not incumbered by a dogma that causes them to doubt whereas a believer will many times have a belief system with gray areas that prevent them from seeing that there is a danger present.
I’m reminded of the story of a man that was drowning in the sea. He cried out for Yahweh to save him and a ship came by and offered to save him. He sent the ship away saying that Yahweh was going to save him. Next a fishing boat came by and he waved them away crying out that Yahweh was going to save him. A helicopter came by to rescue him and he waved them off, shouting his loudest that Yahweh was going to save him. Finally, he lost strength and sank into the depths of the sea and died. When he got to heaven he ask Yahweh why Yahweh didn’t save him. Yahweh said, I did try to save you, three times, but you did not accept the help. When we appeal to Yahweh for help, we had better look at everything that comes our way because what He offers might be what we expect.
Sorry, I have seemed to get off the track a bit. So, where as a prophet, or a watchman do we stand. Well that is an interesting question. I mentioned above how many believers in Yeshua don’t necessarily recognize the calling of watchman or prophet. Let’s face it, if you have ever been in any of the prophetic chat-rooms, or on any of the prophetic sites, it is more of a game-show than a serious prophetic site. I’ve visited many of them, only to find that one prophet is in competition with another one. Also, there are many false prophets on those sites. I told a friend today that if there was still a capital punishment of stoning for being a false prophet that many of those sites would not exist and most would think twice before they opened their mouths.
On the flip side, we have what the world thinks about so called prophets. The world is in denial for the most part; speaking about the atheist world and the religious world (meaning other religions) fail to recognize the testimony of a prophet. There are many people out there who hear voices; whether it is demonic or a split in a person’s character can only be based on individual cases. Some people are schizophrenic, where they hear voices and are given instructions; again, this could be demonic or it could be some sort of imbalance or split in personality. The main thing to remember is that the world does not understand when a believer in Yeshua says that they “hear from Yahweh.” If they are agnostic or atheistic, they will deem you mentally ill, and, if they are of a religious vein, they will consider you deluded or demon possessed. In a church scenario, telling a person that you hear from Yahweh might find you an ear that will listen, but it also could get you shunned or excommunicated from your fellowship. In the secular world, saying such a thing can get you ostracized from friendships, family members and it will get you a “abynormal” label. Worse yet, if a doctor hears you say it, you could be labeled as schizophrenic, deluded and it could get you committed to a mental institution. The things of Yahweh are very foreign to society and society will consider you foreign and a danger if you share the ways and things of Yahweh with them. This should be avoided if at all possible, I mean, unless Yahweh has given a commission to talk directly to someone or a group and you have no doubt that it is a message from Yahweh.
I chatted with a friend today. He lives in a foreign country. What his name is and where he is, is of no concern to anyone, especially because it could put his safety in jeopardy. He informed me that he went to get help with some physical ailments that he has and somehow someone found out that he hears the voice of Yahweh. In his nation, which has almost always been a bastion of freedom for religion, he has been placed in a hospital where they are trying to cure not only his physical ailments, but also his belief that he hears from Yahweh. I would exhort all believers to keep this man in prayer. He has hired a lawyer and such and prayerfully this will all be resolved soon, but the fact that he hears from Yahweh, and he’s being held against his will because of his office as a prophet, well, it’s an atrocity. Today, I found out that his primary care physician is a Pakistani, meaning a Muslim. Muslims believe that believers in Yeshua are deluded and demonized, so it figures to me that his PCP is the one who has placed him in the hospital to “get him straightened out.” This is not a new thing however. In almost every Muslim nation you stand a chance of being institutionalized for being a believer in Yeshua and you’re placed somewhere where you are forced to become a Muslim, or they kill you if you will not convert. In the former Soviet Union, Believers were sent to reeducation camps because of their faith and the same thing is happening places like China even today.
We are told in Scripture that we must not:
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Matthew 7:6
The Greek word for “dog” here is defined as either “dog,” or “a man of impure mind, an impudent man.” The Greek word for “swine,” means exactly that, a pig. Swine were unclean animals (and still are) to Jews. So, in effect, we’re told not to share the precious things of Yahweh with men with impure minds, impudent men, or, unclean people who can never be clean.
When we share things of Yahweh, such as prophecy, we are taking the chance that, as the scripture said, they will turn against us and rip us to shreds. This is what happened with my friend overseas; he shared with the wrong people. I have no doubt that he will prevail and will be released, and, my prayer is that the swine that put him where he is right now will somehow have a change of heart and release my friend and brother.
When we’re given a gift by Yahweh, a skill or an office, we need to keep it within our family; the family of Yahweh. The gifts, skills and offices that Yahweh bestows upon us are for His use and we are to remain humble and contrite as He uses these gifts through us. Notice, I said that He uses these gifts through us. They are not ours, they are on loan, so to speak, and just like you’d be extra careful if you borrowed a brother’s car, you should be careful when you are operating in your gift or office. There is nothing more sickening to me, than when prideful believers put titles before or after their names. Names like Prophet Joe, or Apostle Barry (I made those up, they aren’t actual people) or names that have titles after them, often are the result of pride. If Yahweh talks to such people, I’m sure that when he calls them, he doesn’t use the prefix or a suffix; he just uses their name.
When I was praying for an office, I pretty well knew that I was called to be a watchman or prophet. I’ve always known this, even before I was saved at the age of 20. It is an unthankful office, one that is often spurned. Once people learn that this is your calling, they will ignore you and/or treat you like dirt and they’ll be quick to not tell you things and such. This is what Yahweh has made me and why he made me, and I’ve found it to be a sorrowful office. I have to watch as people will ignore Yahweh’s word and walk down the wrong path. I’ve been called judgmental, a pharisee, unloving and other things, all because Yahweh has told me to present His thoughts about a matter. If you are an evangelist, a teacher or anything else, you have a walk in the park where ministry is concerned, trust me.
My fellow watcher and/or prophets. What has happened to my friend overseas will soon be the norm in all nations. We are told in scripture that we are to be wise as serpents but gentle as doves, and that is good advice. If ever we need wisdom, it is now and even more so in the days to come. I exhort you, only speak when you are absolutely sure that Yahweh is telling you to speak and speak only to those whom He is telling you to speak to. Grow closer to Yahweh, pray without ceasing and grow ever closer to Yahweh Yeshua.
